The largest factor at play is the angle and amount of leverage, which can be fine-tuned with the use different elastics, with the position of the miniplates being mostly standardised. \u201eBollard\u201d miniplates can be placed in the canine or molar regions of the lower and upper jaws, as well as the cheekbone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the orthodontist has decided the location of the plate, three small incisions are made in the oral mucosa, which are peeled back to create a small flap. This exposes the bone underneath.
